Summer learning journey. Canada.

Today I am doing the summer learning journey. My first activity was to chose a country and write two reasons why you chose your country. I chose my country because I love the sports Canadians do like ice hokey,Basket ball and Lacrosse. My second reason is of the two languages you can speak French and English. I would love to learn how to speak french and visit Canada one day.

  1. Hi Nyjah,

Welcome to the Summer Learning Journey programme. It is awesome to see that you have joined us this holiday! I love that you've decided to journey to my home country of Canada. It is a pretty special place :)

We do love to watch and play ice hockey. It is, arguably, the most popular sport in the country. I used to watch it all the time but haven't seen too much of it since moving to New Zealand. I must admit that I do really miss it, sometimes!

I also really miss watching basketball on a regular basis. I not only loved to watch basketball on TV but I also used to go to watch the games in person. When I was in university I worked as an athletic therapist with a women's basketball team so I was able to travel with the team and watch all of their games. I loved it!

Do you ever have the chance to watch basketball on TV or in person? I have seen a few of the New Zealand Breakers game and they seem pretty entertaining!

I hope that you will find this journey really entertaining and a lot of fun. We are so excited that you've joined us this holiday. We can't wait to see where the journey takes you:)

    Cheers,
    Rachel

  2. Kia ora Nyjah,

Welcome to the Summer Learning Journey! We are all stoked to have you on board for the holidays and blogging with us. My name is Dan and I'm working alongside Rachel and Mark over the summer. I'm lucky enough to be able to read your blogs and I'll be leaving comments as I go. If you want to reply to my comments then please do! I'd love to know what you think, or if you have any questions, feel free to ask away.

Of course Rachel would be happy you've chosen Canada... Haha. In saying that, it is a pretty spectacular country! I would love to go there one day and check it out for myself. Like New Zealand, they have a lot of beautiful places to visit, with some incredible lakes and mountains. A lot of the land is completely uninhabitable, that's how rugged it is!

It's cool that you're into sports as well. I love playing lots of different sports. Have you ever played ice hockey before? I haven't, but I've tried lacrosse and it's really fun! Tricky, but fun :-) Who's your favourite basketball team?

It's true that Canada is a bilingual country, and a lot of people who live there can speak fluent French which is pretty cool. Did you know that in NZ we have 3 official languages? English and Maori are two of them, can you guess the third?

This is a great start to your learning journey Nyjah, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you blog about next. Keep it up!

    Cheers,
    Dan.
