Strengthening connections to maths language

Today Fui and I have been growing our knowledge in maths vocabulary. We have grown our connections to written math problems too. At the beginning of our session Mrs Anderson asked us to think all of the words we use when we say 'hello'. Even though the words mean the same thing a person who is just learning english would find that confusing. After that we were asked to tell our partners what a plane was. All of us said it was a form of transport but Mrs Anderson was talking about the plane in maths (which is a flat surface).  Our challenge was to move the correct boxes to the right places in our DLO to help us notice the words that mean the same thing. For example adding goes to the addition box. This activity helped us with what we needed to know what the words mean in a maths context to help us understand what a question is asking us to do. This was a little bit of a challenge for us because we weren't too sure on some of the words to move to the correct places. so we used a bit of help from the maths dictionary and the explore tool.
